Unit Summary Juravinski hospital and Cancer Centre is a regional oncology cancer program. Providing in-patient and outpatient cancer care and treatments along the patients oncology journey. The outpatient care is provided at the Juravinski Cancer Centre where cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation take place. In the inpatient setting cancer care is provided on C3-Medical Oncology, C4-Hemtology and E/F4 Surgical Oncology. Position Summary The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), is a core member of the Juravinski Cancer Program. The SLP provides management of swallowing, voice and speech impairment f for patients with cancers. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with SLP staff, patients, families and inter-professional team members across multiple oncologic site groups. Responsibilities include: Triage, assess, and manage swallowing impairments arising from various cancer disease sites. Provide education/counselling for patients experiencing swallowing and/or communication difficulties and their caregivers Advise on program development requirements to support the SLP needs of patients along the Oncology journey Act as an SLP resource to the SLP team, the interprofessional team, families and students Maintain patient records and workload measurement in accordance with facility and professional standards Maintain and upgrade skills and knowledge through continuing education and seek opportunities for knowledge dissemination Participate in SLP clinical education and interprofessional education activities Participate in relevant Professional Council, Program and hospital-wide meetings, committees and planning as required Practice in accordance with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario Schedule Work Hours Monday to Friday; days Qualifications Master''s level degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university Current registration and in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) Three years of recent experience in the area of dysphagia assessment, management, and counselling Minimum one year experience with cancer care Experience with Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies (VFSS) and Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing required Experience with program development is an asset Able to work independently Willingness and ability to work collaboratively with health care professionals and referring providers Able to organize and prioritize multiple demands Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Commitment to ongoing learning and skill acquisition Commitment to teaching and providing learning opportunities for students Hamilton Health Sciences fosters a culture of patient and staff safety, whereby all employees are guided by our Mission, Vision, Values, and Values Based Code of Conduct.
