Senior CAD Drafter/Designer

Position Overview

QSP is seeking a highly skilled and experienced CAD Drafter/Designer to join our team on a full-time, remote basis. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to support QSP’s ongoing growth and contribute to our success in the utility industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize advanced Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) skills to create detailed utility drawings using industry-standard applications such as Bentley MicroStation.
  • Using field-collected GPS points and surveyed data, create a comprehensive TOPO/landbase drawing.
  • Produce precise as-built and construction drawings for various utility projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members using Microsoft Teams, leveraging its features for communication and project coordination.
  • Mentor junior drafters and designers, sharing insights and best practices to elevate the team’s overall skill set.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all design projects, including revisions, specifications, and project notes.
  • Oversee the quality of drawings and designs, ensuring they meet both QSP’s and industry standards. Implement and maintain quality control protocols.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying abreast of emerging technologies and knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of addressing complex design challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skilled in creating isometric and/or 3D drawings for piping systems, demonstrating a clear understanding of piping layouts and specifications.
  • Strong grasp of coordinate systems, projections, and transformations to ensure accurate location positioning in designs.
  • Perform stakeout calculations for on-site construction guidance, ensuring precise implementation of design plans.
  • Generate accurate topographic profiles for preliminary design and planning stages, ensuring alignment with project specifications.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of various crossing profiles, including water crossings, Ministry of Transportation (MTO) crossings, railway crossings, and foreign pipeline crossings, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and safety considerations for each type.
  • Update and revise existing drawings based on feedback from QC person, planners, engineers, or clients.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the utility industry, with a proven track record of excellence in CAD drafting and design.
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through extensive professional experience.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD software.
