As a team member at the City of Kawartha Lakes, you may be entitled to education reimbursement and other programs that foster innovation, leadership, and career advancement.<br><br><strong>Job Description<br><br></strong><ul><li> Responsible for operations, maintenance and janitorial duties for arenas, and community centres, parks, sports fields, playgrounds, gardens, campgrounds and boat launches as applicable within the identified geographic area, providing a high quality of service to customers </li><li> Responsible for the operation and maintenance of ice resurfacing machine, ice making equipment, as applicable within the identified geographic area </li><li> Oversee performance of tasks by part-time and seasonal staff acting as a team leader and instilling a customer-oriented focus with staff team members </li><li> Liaise with affiliated associations and facility user groups </li><li> Cut and trim lawns, prepare and plant flower and shrub beds, clean debris from lawns and operate and maintain grass cutting equipment, tractors and small power tools, as applicable </li><li> Carry out defined janitorial and maintenance routines and monitor and maintain the use of building storage areas </li><li> Operate and maintain facility equipment such as carpet cleaning machines, floor polishing machines, powered hand tools and snow removal equipment </li><li> Vacuum, wash, strip and wax floors, including washing walls </li><li> Maintain inventories and replenish washroom/kitchen supplies, such as paper towels, toilet paper and soap </li><li> Perform inspections of fire safety systems as required by the Ontario Fire Code </li><li> Maintain waste disposal rooms and recycling facilities, empty receptacles, and carry out for curb side pick-up </li><li> Perform and log preventative maintenance program as required i.e. Change filters, oil mechanical equipment, inspect equipment </li><li> Carry out minor maintenance and repair work as required and approved by the Manager, such as minor patch and paint work, minor carpet repair, re-lamping lighting fixtures, etc. </li><li> Clear snow from sidewalks, walkways, and plough parking lots including shovelling snow by hand and using a walk behind snow blower, and salting and sanding sidewalks, walkways and parking lots as required </li><li> Report damage and acts of vandalism, hazards and building deficiencies to Supervisor/Manager </li><li> Receive and trouble-shoot day-to-day enquiries and complaints from occupants and users within established procedures, reporting and referring issues to the Supervisor/Manager </li><li> Provide feedback to the Manager/Supervisor for the development of operational budgets and capital budget forecast by identifying facility needs and future maintenance </li><li> Provide written reports and complete work orders </li><li> Perform other related duties as assigned <br><br></li></ul><strong>Skills/Education Required<br><br></strong><ul><li> Secondary School diploma with additional education related to building maintenance </li><li> Minimum 2 years of related progressive experience, preferably in a municipal environment </li><li> Certified Playground Inspector designation is an asset </li><li> Demonstrated knowledge of workplace Health and Safety and WHMIS </li><li> Working knowledge of environmentally sustainable janitorial and grounds keeping practices is an asset </li><li> Demonstrated ability to operate hand tools, gasoline or electric motorized equipment, small tractors </li><li> Demonstrated ability to perform basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work </li><li> ORFA Basic Refrigeration Certification is required, or to be obtained within a reasonable time frame (Parks and Recreation positions) </li><li> Demonstrated professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use confidential information appropriately, treat sensitive situations with appropriate degree of tact and discretion </li><li> Effective oral communication and strong interpersonal skills to deal with members of the public, council and all levels of staff </li><li> Ability to demonstrate initiative consistently with commitment to quality improvement, sharing process improvement initiatives with management </li><li> Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy </li><li> Ability to work independently or as an effective member of a team </li><li> Good analytical and problem solving skills related to area of expertise </li><li> Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software </li><li> Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence </li><li> Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search will be required </li><li> Applicants must be prepared for skill testing.</li></ul>
